Lingerie Care Guide
Lingerie Care Guide
How to wash, store, and care for your lingerie so it lasts longer and looks beautiful.
Why Proper Care Matters
Good lingerie is an investment. With the right care, your favourite pieces will last longer, keep their shape, and stay looking like new. Here's everything you need to know.
Washing 101
Hand Wash (Recommended)
Hand washing is the gentlest way to clean your lingerie and the method we recommend for all delicate pieces.
- Fill a basin with cool or lukewarm water (never hot!)
- Add a small amount of gentle detergent (specialty lingerie wash is ideal)
- Swirl your lingerie around gently and let it soak for 10-15 minutes
- Rinse thoroughly with cool water — don't wring or twist
- Gently press out excess water with a towel
Machine Wash (If You Must)
We don't recommend it, but if you do:
- Always use a lingerie wash bag
- Choose the delicate or hand-wash cycle
- Use cold water
- Use mild detergent
- Wash with similar colours
- Never use fabric softener — it breaks down elastic
Drying
- Never tumble dry. Heat destroys elastic and can shrink fabrics.
- Lay flat on a clean towel or drying rack
- Reshape while damp
- Dry away from direct sunlight and radiators
- Allow 24 hours to fully dry before wearing or storing
Storage Tips
- Fold lingerie neatly and store in a drawer
- Use drawer dividers to keep sets together
- Hang bras by the centre gore (between the cups) to maintain shape
- Store away from direct sunlight
- Don't overstuff your drawer — give your lingerie room to breathe
Fabric-Specific Care
Lace
Lace is delicate. Hand wash only and be extra gentle when pressing out water. Never wring lace — it can snag and tear.
Satin & Silk
Hand wash in cool water with a gentle detergent. Hang or lay flat to dry away from sunlight, which can fade the colour.
Mesh & Fishnet
These fabrics are prone to snags. Always wash in a lingerie bag and store carefully, away from jewellery and other sharp objects.
Cotton
More durable than delicate fabrics, but still deserves gentle care. Machine wash on cold in a lingerie bag, tumble dry on low heat (or better yet, air dry).
When to Replace
Even with perfect care, lingerie doesn't last forever. Replace your bras every 6-12 months (or when the elastic starts to stretch out) and panties every few months, depending on wear.
Quick Tips
- Wash after every wear — natural oils break down elastic
- Rotate your bras — give them a day off between wears
- Don't use bleach — it damages fibres and discolours fabric
- Skip the fabric softener — it coats fibres and breaks down elastic
- Be careful with jewellery and zippers — they can snag delicate fabrics
